Community manager vs. just part of my job?
According to the 2009 Brand Communities Survey, roles of community managers include facilitation, content creation, rule enforcement, reporting of metrics, and brand evangelism. But how many positions with other titles (such as customer support, product manager, and content producer) require these roles? Responding to these questions, data from the first study by APOC will be released in June,2009. We have partnered with Digital Family Reunion and ePoll on producing a report on the role of online communities in industry. It should be noted that this report is different from similar ones, such as ReadWriteWeb’s guide to online community management. We are approaching the topic from a social science perspective, identifying key roles that social media play in industry. In addition to the question of title and salary, we are looking at business goals, metrics used, and how “power users” are identified.
